Cape, Tights and Confidence

There are days I wake up feeling sure and confident, but I could probably count those days on my two hands. I'm afflicted with a slight case of self-doubt.  I'm pretty sure I wasn't born with it but, instead, "caught" it while I was growing up, being taught not to brag, not to boast, not to be so bold, not to be so proud.

It's kind of a case of humble-itis, where grounded humility leaks into healthy self-esteem. It's not crippling, nor is it all-consuming. Thank goodness. Because of this I find that, when necessary, I can fake it. And that's okay.

Confidence is more of a habit than anything else. It's stepping past that niggling self-doubt, blocking out fear and insecurities, giving yourself a big thumbs-up, and then doing your thing.

Confidence is not pomposity. Whereas pompousness or cockiness are filled with the hot air of conceit and narcissism, confidence has everything to do with presenting yourself as strong and able and nothing to do with tearing or putting others down.

Confidence is silent. Insecurities are loud. ~ Unknown

You have to love and believe in yourself to have confidence. You have to respect your skills, talents, gifts and traits and hold them in high esteem.

You have to have to let go of comparing yourself to anybody else and decide you don't need others to tell you what you are and who you are.

We're made perfectly in God's eyes. We have everything we need to move forward in confidence and live our best lives. Instead of hiding ourselves away and holding ourselves back, it's time to start having faith in who God made us and sharing the amazing gifts we've been given.

So don your tights and your cape, throw back your shoulders, and hold your head up. Keep confidence in your arsenal of superpowers and go "live the life you have imagined."

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. ~ Thomas Alva Edison
